Historical Note
The Council on Aging was established by Chapter 5 of the Ordinances of 1968. By Chapter 4 of the Ordinances of 1970, the council was reorganized and the name changed to Commission on Affairs of the Elderly. The Commission on Affairs of the Elderly is cognizant of federal and state legislation concerning financial assistance, information exchange and planning for better community programming for the elderly, and coordinates or carries out programs designed to meet the problems of the aging in coordination with programs of the Commission on Aging established under Chapter 6 of the General Laws. The Commission on Affairs of the Elderly sends to said Commission on Aging a copy of the annual report transmitted to the Mayor.
