Historical note
The Economic Development and Industrial Corporation of Boston was established by Chapter 1097 of the Acts of 1971. The function of EDIC is: to conduct research into industrial conditions, investigate and assist in the establishment of educational, commercial, and industrial projects, including projects involving private enterprise, for the purpose of expanding and strengthening the local economy, and to seek to coordinate the activation of unofficial bodies organized for these purposes. In 1993, Mayor Thomas M. Menino merged the Boston Redevelopment Authority and EDIC into a single citywide development agency.
