Historical note
The Back Bay Architectural District was designated in 1966 by Act of the Massachusetts State Legislature (Chapter 625 of the Acts of 1966, as amended). All exterior work (whether or not it is visible from a public way) requires the review of the Back Bay Architectural Commission. A Certificate of Appropriateness, Design Approval, or Exemption Application must be submitted to and approved by the Commission prior to beginning any exterior work.
